Frequently Asked Questions for Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds for Business:
Who can apply:
Anyone. This coming cohort starting in September 2021 and beyond, we welcome all genders. For clarity, this course is not basic anti-racism or similar class. We expect a basic degree of understanding about anti-oppressive work. This is a brave space, it's ok to make mistakes AND we want to treat people with care and respect.
What if I am having trouble with the application?
No worries. We accept a verbal application or can provide other arrangements. Book directly into Anuradha's calendar here.
When do the applications close?
We have a rolling application. You can apply for SPCS for Business year round for the next cohort. We encourage you to set up your payment plan and get on-boarded for the course for the next fall cohort.
What if I can't make a call live or I'm in another time zone?
No worries. We have done our best to make the live sessions as accessible across many time zones. Each week you will have a list of the resources, topics discussed, and practices. In addition, we record the calls and upload them to the Mighty Networks portal within 48 hours along with the transcript. We do ask everyone to participate in some way, either in the live class or in the discussion within Mighty Networks, or a combination of the two.
When do we start?
The date for the next cohort is TBD. It will be in the fall of 2023.
Can I do a work-trade and what does that entail? We have filled the work trade positions, I might be able to open another slot if we have over 10 paid participants. Normally this work entails cleaning up transcriptions via Otter or helping me create slide decks or other administrative tasks.
What happens if I have to stop my work-trade or payments?
If you let us know, we can work with you. If you suddenly stop showing up for your work-trade commitments or stop your payments without letting us know, we will remove you from the course until you are current again. This includes receiving access to the resources and recordings.
Do you offer refunds?
For those who take the course as an individual, we offer a refund within 14-days of signing up, in accordance to distance selling regulations. After 14 days for individuals or any for businesses, we do not give refunds. You'll have access to your payment plan details via ThriveCart and have complete control of your payments. As stated above, if you cancel any further payments, you will be removed from the course.
How long is the course?
It's a 14 week experience with trainings, guest speakers, and integration/discussion time. We will also focus on creating our praxis: assets like accessibility statements or internal documents on how we approach pricing and so on in community.
Should I take it now or later?
It's up to you. We'll be offering it again in 2023 and most probably again in 2024.
Is there space for me?
Most definitely. We can support upto 16 business/teams in each cohort.
Can I bring my business partner or team member? Yes, you're more than welcome to do this! We have had several business partners take our foundation training together and a company with several employees also joined our last cohort. They have had some pretty amazing shifts in the ways they work since the course.
What results will taking this course bring to me and my business? We don't guarantee any sort of results, it really depends on your grounding, your priorities, and the ways you implement what we speak about. Most people share that it changes their view of capitalism and living/operating in. We've had business owners say it: saved their working relationship, changed their money and pricing ethic, shifted the projects the focused on to bring more ease into their work. Here's a look at what people are saying about our class.
What's the difference between the foundation and business course? The main difference is the focus. While the foundation course is a broad overview of post capitalism that can be applied to live, work, relationships, and community, the business course is more targeted to talk about building sustainable and ethical businesses in a post capitalist framework. Some of the materials and discussions overlap, especially in the first 6-8 weeks.
Can I pitch an alternative payment plan? YES! In the past we have been asked for longer payment schedules, a combination of work-trade/payment, and paying a higher payment for the payment plan (because they can afford more). Let's talk about it--please ask for what you need. We will do our best to accomodate within reason.
What if I can't afford the class?
We offer several tiers in our sliding scale for the class with payment plans to spread the cost for 3 payments.
Outside of those options, if you would like to propose an alternate payment plan send it to us here or schedule time directly with Anuradha.
In the future, we'd like to offer a discount for team members, a Global South pricing, and a skills share/trade option. This depends on how well the course does going forward.
What if I don't know how to use Zoom or Mighty Networks/Circle?
Let us know. We help you out. You will need internet access and a digital device that connects you to the internet. For Zoom you can download the app and log in with the details we provide.
And in the Mighty Networks, you can create an account and access it through the mobile app or via a computer. We will give you a brief tutorial on how to use it.
Circle has an app but it is not widely available (only iOS not for Androids) but it is a web application and works similar to social media sites.
What if I can't keep up with the course materials?
That is completely fine. The materials are optional. We do our best to summarize the salient points of the readings in during class and we are continuously looking to add more variety of resources that are beyond readings (ie, audios, graphics, videos, etc.) We have also added 2 integration weeks at Week 5 and Week 10 where no new materials are added, so there is time to integrate.
You will also have access to the recordings and a list of the resources for future perusal after the course is completed.
What if I'm not sure if I am good fit?
Send us a direct email, or schedule time with Anuradha to chat about it.
Can I take this course again in the future?
Yes, of course. We've had a few students sign up to take the foundation course again. Each group has a different set of perspectives they bring and each time, to keep it fresh, Moriah and Anuradha strive to bring in new content and new learnings. However, at this time, I'm not sure if I will host this SPCS for business course again in 2023.
How long will the materials take me each week?
It's going to vary from person to person, but a good estimate is about an hour of time beyond the 90 minute calls. Of course, you are welcome to do what works best for you. And as I shared above, we make every effort to highlight the sailient points of the text during the class.
What will you be offering further trainings?
Yes, a SPCS membership has started for SPCS alumni and newbies alike. In addition, we plan to offer periodic workshops, panels, and other trainings. Sign up to our list to get the details.
Why do you charge in GBP?
The Kowtha Constellation is based in the UK and hence our main currency is the pound sterling. You can choose to pay via direct bank transfer or Wise (formerly TransferWise) if those solutions work better for you or your organization. Let us know if you need these details. We can accept payment in a few other currencies if that is the only option available to you, but this is a limited option.
